Health and Behaviour
Health and behaviour go hand in hand. If your dog isn't feeling their best, then their behaviour will reflect that. Below we have put together some basic health information. *Disclaimer- always speak to your vet.
Did you know your dogs gut health could influence their mental health?
The connection between gut health and behaviour si becoming and increasingly important area of research. The gut-brain axis is a two-way communication system linking the digestive system and the brain, influencing stress responses, emotional regulation and overall wellbeing. The microorganisms living in your dogs digestive tract play an important role in this relationship. A 2025 study published in scientific reports identified associations between the composition of dogs' gut bacteria and their levels of aggression and anxiety. While the research is still developing, these findings highlight why supporting a gut microbiome deserves consideration when approaching canine behaviour.
At the DEC we are passionate about educating owners about good health helping to equal good behaviour. It's not the whole picture, but it is a big player.
One of the products we highly recommend and stock is CanineCeuticals Gut Protect. It's an Australian made supplement formulated with prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes and supportive herbs.
Good gut health also supports skin and coat health (great for those itchy doggos) immune function, nutrient absorption and many more things.
The best part..... it's very cost effective!
